Assemblyman Will Barclay presents Irving Candee, left, with a New York State Assembly Citation recognizing Candee’s 60 years of service to the Belgium Cold Springs Fire Department.
Baldwinsville Irving Candee defines the word dedication.
For 60 years, Candee has served the needs of his community through the Belgium Cold Springs Fire Department.
He became a member of the department on Dec. 6, 1951, and rapidly began assuming many leadership roles including assistant chief starting in 1953, chief starting in 1957, department secretary in 1960 and a member of the Board of Directors from 1997 to 1999. In addition to the numerous training courses he has completed over the years (NYS Essentials of Firemanship, Crash Injury Management, Hazardous Materials and Emergency Medical Training), he has also been nominated for the prestigious Red Jacket Award, which recognizes an individual’s devotion to civic progress.
During the fire department’s annual installation banquet, held recently at the Lakeside Fire Department Recreational Hall, Legislator Brian F. May presented Candee with a Gold Seal Proclamation from the Onondaga County Legislator recognizing and honoring Candee’s 60 years of service to the Belgium Cold-Springs Fire Department.
“Irving Candee is an example of dedicated volunteerism and leadership; he has left a lasting legacy over the past 60 years with the Belgium Cold Springs Fire Department,” the proclamation read.
Assemblyman Will Barclay was also in attendance and presented Candde with a New York State Assembly Citation, which read, “It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others and tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Irving Candee is such a firefighter.”
