Baldwinsville As On Point for College prepares to send 400 new first-generation college students from the inner city off to college this fall, the organization is asking the community to donate school and dorm room supplies for these low-income students.
“For more than a decade, so many in this community have generously opened their hearts and donated supplies to help our students find success, and we’re asking for that help again,” said Ginny Donohue, On Point for College founder and executive director.
The following items are needed:
Electric alarm clocks
Five-subject notebooks with pockets
Pens and pencils
Full size (not samples):
Twin or twin XL sheet sets (200 count or higher, flat and fitted sheet and pillowcase)
Towels and washcloths
Gift cards to stores where school supplies can be purchased (Wal-Mart, Target, Staples, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Barnes and Noble—for textbooks).
Gas cards for driving students to and from college—On Point provides all transportation for students who need it who attend New York State colleges.
Donations can be dropped off during business hours at 1654 West Onondaga St., Syracuse (the Catholic Charities building). On Point’s wing is located in the rear entrance. To schedule a pickup of a supply drive in your workplace, please call Fritz Diddle at 484-3150.
