The Baldwinsville Marching Bees perform during the 2012 Memorial Day Parade in Baldwinsville. The Bees, along with the Baldwinsville Pep Band, will perform a free concert at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Paper Mill Island to kick off the 2012 Free Summer Concert Series.
Baldwinsville On a beautiful summer Tuesday, the sun lowers in the sky and great music floats out over the Seneca River. Singles, couples and families are spread around Paper Mill Island on blankets, lawn chairs and picnic tables, enjoying great music plus ice cream, snacks and beverages purchased from vendors right there on the island. Boats float by, passing through Lock 24. The living is easy, and the concert is free.
The Baldwinsville Free Summer Concert Series will be back this year providing a variety of good music for everyone to enjoy for free.
Concerts are sponsored by the Town of Lysander Parks and Recreation, Town of Van Buren Parks and Recreation, Baldwinsville Public Library, the Village of Baldwinsville and the Baldwinsville Summer Concert Series Partnership. This partnership consists of local residents and others dedicated to preserving the superb quality of this free musical series by contributing funds to pay the concert performers and any expenses of holding these events. Local residents and businesses become directly involved through the partnership, and ensure that this priceless music series continues to move towards excellence. A hand-fan listing all the sponsors and partners is handed out at each concert.
The 2012 concert lineup includes the award winning Baldwinsville schools’ marching band, blues and jazz bands, country, classic rock and some acts with that big band sound.
All concerts start at 6:30 p.m.; this is a free concert series for the public.
Concerts are held outdoors on Paper Mill Island. Parking is available on the surrounding streets including Water, Marble and Denio streets. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Also available at all outdoor concerts on the Island will be food, snacks, ice cream and beverages.
In case of inclement weather, most concerts will be held at an indoor rain location (the Fireside Inn, 2345 West Genesee Road, Baldwinsville). There is no rain location available for the first concert, the Baldwinsville Bees Marching band and Pep Band on June 26, so that concert will be cancelled in case of hard rain. Call the Baldwinsville Public Library at 635-5631 after 4 p.m. on the day of a concert to find out if that night’s concert has been moved indoors.
