COLUMN: Volunteer Connections - Teen opportunities available this summer

— Silver Fox Senior Club, a daycare program for seniors, could use help between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays (help is especially needed between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.). Volunteers will assist aides with serving lunch and other refreshments, play games, help with activities like arts and craft projects and visit with participants. Volunteers should be age 16 and over.

Call Becky Kishtok at 635-5335. Be sure to let Becky know if you have a talent that you’d be willing to share such as singing, dancing or playing a musical instrument; entertainment is always appreciated.

The Silver Fox Senior Club is located at 24 E. Genesee St. (behind Colonial Laundromat and Subway).

Park Terrace Assisted Living Facility

Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, playing games/cards, etc. Minimum age for volunteers is 13. Contact Erin Donohue, activities coordinator, at 638-9207. Park Terrace is located at 2981 Town Center Road off of Willett Parkway in Radisson.

McHarrie Life Senior Community

(formerly known as Syracuse Home Association)

A sampling of activities teen volunteers (age 14 and older) can help with are: transport aide, friendly visitor, sports activities and outings, physical fitness, trip escort, playing games and cards (especially bingo on Fridays), etc. Entertainment is always welcome so please let Siobhan Rodriques know if you would like to sing, dance or play a musical instrument. McHarrie Life Community is located at 7740 Meigs Road (off of Downer Street).

Baldwinsville Public Library

Volunteers age 12 and older are needed to staff the children’s summer reading program desk to listen to book reports and hand out prizes for six weeks beginning July 2. Shifts are for two hours from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Please sign up with Corrine Needham at the Children’s Desk or call her at 635-5631.

The library is located at 33 E. Genesee St. in the village.

For animal lovers

Rescue Hounds, Humane Association, SPCA and the Wanderer’s Rest Shelter are willing to let volunteers ages 15 to 18 help out with parental consent. Duties include: cleaning cages and litter pans, sweeping and mopping floors, greeting visitors and answering phones, filling food and water dishes and playing with the animals. Orientation is required and some training.
