Skaneateles board of education appoints interim superintendent

Dr. Judy Pastel to take the reins July 1

— Before becoming superintendent of Ithaca in 1996, Pastel worked in Long Island, where she served in administrative positions as principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. She retired in December 2010 from Ithaca and one year later become interim superintendent at Trumansburg.

Pastel said she will continue to live in and commute from Ithaca, where she lives with her husband, but expects to spend two to four nights a week in Skaneateles. She has two children and seven grandchildren.

Dreyfuss said the school board will begin a statewide search for a permanent superintendent shortly and will be seeking community input.
