COLUMN: Library Focus - School’s out but learning continues

— Own the night reading kickoff

At 1 p.m. Friday, June 22, teens interested in the summer reading game are invited to our kickoff pizza party where they can learn about the reading game, discover our Tuesday night event lineup and other summer programs.

Summer Storytimes and more

Our youngest users are invited to get back in the storytime habit despite hectic summer schedules with our summer series of drop in storytimes. No registration is needed, but we do ask parents and caregivers to observe the suggested ages for the best storytime experience. Signup for the Pre k through fifth grade reading game starts on Monday, June 25, in the Children’s Area. This crew keeps a log of summer reading and reports on books to our summer reading volunteers to earn weekly prizes. They will also be eligible to attend a series of special Monday events.

Pokémon Black and White Tournament

Come play the hand held game from 1:30 to 4:45 p.m. Sunday, June 24.

Open Writers’ Group

Whether you are blogging for profit or trying to write the great American novel, it helps to have folks to discuss it with. Join our long running writers group at 7 p.m. June 26 for sharing and support.

Summer scrapping

Missy Shipman will offer a Scrapbooking Workshop at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 28 for $20. Both require registration.

Be a tourist in your own back yard

Ever been on one of the local canal/river tours? Now is the time to fill the hole in your personal experience with our third Annual Seneca River Boat Cruise, a Baldwinsville Public Library fundraiser held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 12, in conjunction with Baldwinsville Rotary’s Seneca River Days. The cruise is $45 per person and includes music provided by Serafini’s Little Big Band along with desserts, door prizes and a cash bar. Tickets are available at the circulation desk at the library.

Valerie Chism is the young adult librarian at the Baldwinsville Public Library.
