COLUMN: Library Focus - School’s out but learning continues

— The rumble of the buses is receding and the parties on the island are getting revved up – summer has arrived in CNY and the library is ready with all sorts of activities for you and yours. Join us this summer for computer classes, job hunting tune-ups, family films, crafts, music and reading programs for every age and stage.

Schools close but classes continue

Wired Wednesdays, offered at 1:30 p.m. each Wednesday, covers a variety of topics. June classes include Basics of Digital Photos (June 20) and Pinterest? What’s That? (June 27). Our Thursday classes at 7 p.m. presume a basic knowledge of Windows and focus on specific projects. This month’s offerings include All about Ebooks (June 21) and DIY Home Repair on the Web (June 28). All classes are hands-on workshops with a limit of 10 participants and registration is required.

Crafty companions

Come on in and craft with congenial companions. We offer free form sewing style circles free and open to all. Pulling Threads meets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, to work on personal projects. In Stitches is a similar group that meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 27. Both programs are free and do not require registration.

Sing a song of summer

Celebrate the solstice with music, storytelling and magic at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20. Hosted by Merry Mischief; performer sign-in begins at 6:30 p.m.

Jobseekers’ Lifeline

Our librarians specialize in helping those seeking work. Come share your progress and challenges with jobseekers and a librarian at 1 p.m. Thursdays, June 21 and 28.

Onondaga Otaku

Join us Thursday, June 21, for anime and a side of ramen.

Last meetup before summer strikes. Informal gaming and trades from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 21.

Tech help drop-in

Librarians will be available to help with laptops, mobile devices, e-readers and tablet computers from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Fridays. No registration is necessary, but please bring manuals if you have them.
