Syracuse Home at McHarrie Place resident Nora Davidson, center, enjoys “Ladies Day” on May 16 with the help of volunteer, Angela Burton, left, and auxiliary volunteer Wanetta Edgett. Ladies’ Day included a day of pampering for the women of McHarrie Life Senior Community. Residents enjoyed makeovers, refreshments, health and wellness presentations and prizes throughout the day.
Baldwinsville Now that summer is approaching, why not consider volunteering at Syracuse Home at McHarrie Place? There are plenty of exciting volunteer opportunities to choose from.
“Whether you are interested in friendly visiting, assisting with monthly outings, participating in Bingo, transporting residents to activities, sharing your musical talent or leading your own small group project, we will help you find a volunteer position that best fits your personal interests and schedule,” said Siobhan Rodrigues, volunteer coordinator at Syracuse Home at McHarrie Place.
Volunteering is a great way to help others who are less fortunate, meet new people, gain a better understanding of the needs of our local community and learn new skills. In addition, studies prove that people who volunteer live longer, healthier lives than those who don’t get involved in their community.
If you enjoy spending time with residents in a small group setting, Sage Court memory care program is looking for volunteers to help with morning exercise, baking, craft projects and escorting residents to weekly church service and rosary.
“Our residents in Sage Court are in the early stages of memory impairment but enjoy socializing, having fun, reminiscing and spending time with family and friends. It is a very fulfilling opportunity for both the residents and our volunteers,” Rodrigues said.
McHarrie Life Senior Community is a not-for-profit organization that provides a continuum of healthcare programs and services for older adults including: independent living at McHarrie Towne; assisted living and memory care at McHarrie Pointe; and skilled nursing care and short-term rehabilitation at Syracuse Home at McHarrie Place. All programs and services are conveniently located on a beautiful 140-acre campus at 7740 Meigs Road, Baldwinsville.
“Come and join our team of 75 active volunteers who donated more than 6,000 hours of service last year,” Rodrigues said. “We are grateful for every one of our volunteers and their dedication to our program. We are looking forward to adding new members to our volunteer team!”
