To the editor:
Although I do not live in the village, I have lived on Cazenovia Lake for more than 20 years.
The village management of the boat ramp in Lakeside Park is an excellent example of the town and village working together to achieve the best practice for the lake. The whole system of permits required to launch a boat and the inspections of boats and trailers entering and leaving Cazenovia Lake are a success story now being implemented by other lakes in New York state.
The current infestation of non-native species such as eurasian watermilfoil and zebra mussels are real concerns. New invasive species such as hydrilla have invaded Cayuga Lake.
We do not want hydrilla in this lake.
With the hard work started by Kurt Wheeler and Amy Mann, and now being continued by Village Trustee David Porter, Cazenovia Lake is being protected through its intensive inspection system from new and non-native invasive species entering the lake by boats and trailers at Lakeside Park.
Dave Porter is truly a public servant. I am asking the village voters to return Dave to his seat on the Cazenovia Village Board on Tuesday, June 19.
