Baldwinsville To the editor:
On Saturday, May 19, my family and I had the wonderful opportunity to attend Farm Fest in the Town of Lysander. The Town of Lysander Parks and Recreation Department coordinated this event. It featured “open farms” at Abbott Farms (a fruit, vegetable and free-range beef farm since 1866); Bella Via Farms (a modern processing facility as well as a family goat farm with incredible Feta cheese and milk for direct purchase); Smoke Tree Farms (an 80-acre horse farm that offers lessons, boarding, camps and other community activities); Stillwater Farms (an Angus/Simmental-cross beef and crop farm); and the Shacksboro Museum (a local museum highlighting the Baldwinsville, Lysander and Van Buren areas).
People who attended this event got to go on horse rides and hay wagon rides, learn about life on the farm and how our food is grown locally to bring healthy meal choices to our dinner tables. All of our hosts were very friendly and enjoyed answering questions. It is great to have our farms protecting open space and conserving water quality to keep central New York a wonderful place to live and work. Thank you to the Town of Lysander Parks and Recreation Department coordinated this wonderful event.
