Kiwanis fishing event draws children to the river

— Kids Fishing Derby participants are pictured during the Greater Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce’s annual Family Fun Day at Mercer Park Saturday, June 2, which included the derby sponsored by the Baldwinsville Kiwanis Club. Sophia Proia, of Baldwinsville, won the most fish caught for girls award snagging nine fish. Michael Bednarczyle received the most fish caught for boys award catching six fish. Jessie Flynn caught the first fish of the derby with a 6-inch sunfish at 9:02 a.m.; Matthew Caraccioli caught the last fish at 10:30 a.m. snagging a 5.5-inch sunfish. Grace Calkins caught the largest fish, a 9-inch sheephead. Connor Galle caught the smallest fish, a 3.5-inch musky.
