Baldwinsville Jack Denny, 10, of Baldwinsville, leads the 100m dash at the Special Olympics, which took place Thursday morning, May 17, at the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Athletic Complex. Trailing him, left, is Matt Morey, 8, also of Baldwinsville. More than 700 athletes competed in the day’s various track & field events, which included 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m dashes, relay races, running long jump, standing broad jump, softball throw and shot put. Kids also competed in adapted events, including walking with and without assistance, as well as wheelchair races. The Special Olympics promote fitness, coordination and cardiovascular improvement, as well as self-confidence, discipline and self-esteem.
