Skaneateles In its continuing celebration of Charles Dickens’ 200th birthday, the Skaneateles Area Chamber of Commerce has introduced Victorian dance cards to its First Friday celebrations, making participants eligible for monthly prize drawings.
The cards, supported by a grant from the Skaneateles Area Arts Council, will be distributed through December by participating merchants. Dance cards also contain a village map, identifying merchants taking part in that month’s celebration.
To be eligible for prize drawings, people must visit five different locations in one evening and get their cards stamped at each location. After obtaining their final stamp, they can turn the cards in to any participating merchant or to the Skaneateles Chamber, thus becoming eligible for that month’s prize drawing. The prize for August is a gift basket donated by Skaneateles Artisans.
First Friday, launched in 2008, is a community-wide arts celebration that runs 6 to 9 p.m. on the first Friday of each month, May through December. Participating merchants identify themselves by flying First Friday flags outside their establishments.
