B’ville lax players to represent CNY in tourney

— Ronnie Bertrand, son of Ron and Susan Bertrand of Baldwinsville, and Scott Kirchner, son of Bob and Christine Kirchner of Baldwinsville, have been selected to represent Central New York in the Empire State Cup Tournament. The Central New York team will be coached by B.J. O'Hara and assistant coach J.T. Pitcher. Bertrand and Kirchner are both starting members of the Baldwinsville Varsity Lacrosse team and are rising seniors.

The inaugural Empire State Cup will be played in Syracuse from July 26 to 29. The Empire State Cup has been designed to give lacrosse players another opportunity to be seen and recruited at the highest level of competition possible in the state of New York.

Players are selected from six regions of New York State after a tryout process. Each regional all-star team consists of the top 24 athletes from that region. There is regional play for seeding and then tournament play for medal rounds. Each regional team will play seven games leading into the tournament finals.

The Empire Cup is designed to see who is the best region in the Empire State.
