Beaver Lake Nature Center: Sharing Nature Summer Camp

— Preschoolers can enjoy weekly explorations of Beaver Lake Nature Center this summer at Sharing Nature Summer Camp. Choose either Thursdays or Fridays and get in on five days of discovery, hikes, games and crafts. $7 per session or $30 for all five sessions. Children should be accompanied by an adult; registration required.

July 26 or 27: Incredible Insects

Aug. 2 or 3: Pond Dipping

Sunset canoe/kayak tours

This July, Beaver Lake Nature Center opens the canoe and kayak dock in the evening for a sunset tour held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 28. A naturalist will guide the group across the lake with the chance of observing the grace of a great blue heron, the prowess of a kingfisher and the close-up beauty of a water lily. $15; registration required. Kayaks can accommodate one individual, canoes are limited to 560 pounds (maximum of four people per canoe).

Friday Evening Wildlife Walks

Beaver Lake Nature Center will offer evening Wildlife Walks, at 7 p.m. every Friday in July. Evening is a time when many animals are most active. A naturalist will guide visitors through the forests and meadows of Beaver Lake Nature Center in search of wildlife and their signs. This program is free with admission.

Nature On Wheels

Tuesdays in July, Beaver Lake Nature Center will offer Nature on Wheels tours featuring the NOWmobile, an electric vehicle that connects visitors with mobility limitations to the fascinating natural areas of Beaver Lake. Each excursion is a 90-minute tour through the center's diverse habitats. Accompanied by a naturalist, the NOWmobile will slowly travel the trails, stopping occasionally to take a close look at interesting features of nature. Tours are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays in July. $2.50; registration required.

Lemonade & Sunshine

Free drop-in programs for school-age children

Children and their parents can drop in at 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays this July and August for Lemonade & Sunshine, free programs described below. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy following the activity, and the nature center will provide an accompaniment of lemonade.
