On July 14, the Cazenovia Youth Lacrosse Association’s 7/8 boys team took first place in the 1812 Shootout, an annual summer lacrosse tournament held in Sackets Harbor.

Cazenovia competed in the Blue Division, comprised of 16 teams from across the state, and dominated opponents from Honeoye Falls – Lima (8-0), Hamburg (6-0), and Vestal (6-1) to reach the finals.

In the championship game, Cazenovia faced a strong team from Penfield, near Rochester. Once again, though, Cazenovia was unstoppable, defeating Penfield 4-0 to finish an almost perfect day.

For the day, Cazenovia outscored its challengers by a combined 24-1 margin, as the defense was virtually impenetrable and the offense was consistent throughout the afternoon.

The 1812 Shootout is a highly competitive tournament that some of these kids have been battling to win for the past six years. Their hard work through the years, coupled with the dedication of their coaches, finally paid off with this title.

Coached by Dave Falge, Brian Willard and Clay Coleman, the team members included: Chris Becker, Geoff Christiansen, Zack Conklin, Cooper Coleman, T.J. Connellan, Ben Falge, Brady Flannery, Rory Flannery, Dylan Hahn, Jake Lewis, Adam Race, Will Shephard, Zack Squires, Jake Stowell, Anthony Vecchiarelli, Brenden Whalen, Derek White and Cole Willard.
