Cazenovia Through the Broadband Technology Opportunity Program, several free computer classes will be available at the Cazenovia Public Library during July, August and September.
Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays with instructors from Mid-York — Fritz Meeusen, Kevin Perez, Jennifer Recht and Katie McCauley.
The first course, “Introduction to Computers,” is designed for people who have little or no computer experience. It is a hands-on class with guided instruction as well as self-study guide handouts and covers basic skills beginning with using the mouse and keyboard and progressing to file management and Internet use.
This class will be taught in three sessions of two hours each, with each session a prerequisite for the next. “Introduction to Computers” will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Mondays, July 23, 30 and Aug. 6.
“How to Use an eReader” will show users how to borrow eBooks from the Mid-York system. Users with eReaders should bring their personal devices to the class while those interested in exploring eReader options will have the opportunity to handle the Kindle Fire, Kindle Touch and Nook Color. This class will be held at 2 and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, and will be completed in one session.
“Microsoft Excel 2010 Basics: Creating a Personal Budget” covers the basics of Excel, Microsoft’s spreadsheet program, using a personal budget as a sample project. This class will be useful for those seeking to learn Excel for their job, job search, and school work as well as for those wanting to learn Excel for their home use or just for fun.
This class will be completed in one session of two hours. Being comfortable with the keyboard and mouse is a prerequisite, and while previous experience with any version of Microsoft Office will be beneficial, it is not required. This class will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to watch for details on additional classes in August and September, including Microsoft Power Point 2010 Basics, Microsoft Word 2010 Basics: Creating a Business Letter, Digital Photo Management, Basic Internet Security and Computer Maintenance as well as iPad classes and a second offering of “Introduction to Computers.”
