LETTERS: Library literacy coordinators thank Noll, CCH families

To the editor:

The Cazenovia Children’s House’s recent donation drive for CazCares and Cazenovia Public Library’s Story Room literacy program has set us up for the summer. The high quality children’s books, family board games, art kits, science activity kits and coloring books will benefit our preschoolers as well as the many school-aged kids we will see in July and August at CazCares.

The book donations were much appreciated, as we hope to see every CazCares school-age child read at least six books this summer – one way to ensure kids don’t lose any ground academically before returning to school in September.

The many family board games and puzzles we received from the CCH drive were also a bonus. Simple pleasures for families, like playing cards or “Candy Land,” are what summer is all about, and we plan to give games away to CazCares families as well as use them on site this summer.

In the Story Room at CazCares, we see more than 170 children a month during July and August. Our program operates on a drop-in basis for kids whose parents are receiving services at CazCares.

Your donations give our summer program and its literacy volunteers an opportunity to read with children, help kids fill out summer reading logs to win prizes, play board games and card games and enjoy crafts and art projects that advance academic skills.

Thanks, CCH, for equipping us so well for the summer.
