LETTERS: Recusals are in order for Lysander appointments

— To the editor: Recently, our newly elected Lysander Town Board members appointed a new person to our Town Planning Board. Not only to the board, but also they appointed him chairman. I have a question regarding Mr. Frederick Allen and his new appointment. Will Mr. Allen, when and if the YMCA of Greater Syracuse submits an application, whether at Drakes Landing or another Lysander site, recuse himself?

It is well documented that Mr. Allen and his family have had a long business relationship with Mark Bitz. It includes Plainville Turkey farms and CNY Crops. It is also well known that Mr. Bitz for many many years has an unending passion to bring a YMCA to Lysander. One can clearly see the conflict of interest that lies before this man.

It is not much different than Mr. Allen’s first day on the job. His son was on the planning board agenda for a minor subdivision, in which Mr. Allen took the correct path and recused himself from voting on the matter.

Of course the same question can be asked of L. Micha Ordway, Jr., our newly appointed Lysander Zoning Board of Appeals Member and chairman. On his Attorney Profile Page, he is listed as the Treasurer of the downtown YMCA.

So I ask, will these gentlemen do the right thing with regards to any future decisions regarding the YMCA that may come before their respective boards by recusing themselves?

Jeff Dack is a resident of Lysander.
