When they met at J-D on Dec. 13, Cortland led 33-26 at halftime before the Rams, getting its usual star turns from Dajuan Coleman (17 points, 15 rebounds) and Tyler Cavanaugh (16 points, 16 rebounds), rallied to win 59-51. It remains the Purple Tigers' lone defeat of the season.
Now they face off once more, with J-D again defending the top spot in the state Class A rankings and Cortland holding the no. 12 spot.
The Rams' last tune-up was Friday's 83-42 win over Fulton. Already with a comfortable lead, the Rams, who hadn't played in a week, outscored the Red Raiders 24-7 in the second quarter and built the margin to 66-28 before resting the starters in the fourth quarter.
Coleman picked up 22 points, with Cavanaugh managing 13 points. In all, 10 different players scored, with Dan Canfield picking up 10 points. Jafar Kinsey and Brendon Schunck had nine points apiece.
