COLUMN: Consider becoming more involved with the school district

— Congratulations Marching Band

Congratulations to our marching band, the 2012 Gator Bowl Sweepstakes Champions!

The band won first place in the Gator Bowl field band and parade band competition held on New Year’s Eve in Jacksonville, Fla. The band was awarded several trophies and a $10,000 check.

The band clinched first place for overall percussion, overall guard, overall marching, overall general effect and overall music for parade band, as well as first place for best drum major, best percussion, best guard, best marching, best general effect and best music for marching band.

The band’s success is a testament to the hard work and determination of the students and staff members involved in the marching band program. In addition to devoting numerous hours to rehearsing and perfecting each piece of their show, “Apollo ’11: From the Earth to the Moon,” students and staff members worked diligently for months to raise all the funds necessary for the trip.

I would like to thank family and friends whose sacrifices and support helped the band to achieve this great success. The band’s success is an example of how stakeholder involvement aids our students in their achievements.

Best wishes for a healthy and happy new year.

Jeanne M. Dangle is the superintendent of the Baldwinsville Central School District.
