A Report from SVFD Station 54

— The Skaneateles Fire Department answered 387 calls during 2011, an increase of 37 alarms from 2010. This is the highest response total in the department’s 179-year history.

For the month of December 2011, the members of the Skaneateles Fire Department responded to a total of 30 calls bringing the yearly total to 387 calls. Below is a summary of December’s responses:

Fire: 20

Rescue: 1

EMS: 8 (SFD responds when SAVES is on another call)

Water Rescue: 0

Mutual Aid: 1 (SFD responds to another fire district)

Total number of calls for December: 30

Total Personnel Hours for December: 237.9

The breakdown of the SFD’s total calls throughout 2011 is as follows:

Fire: 176 alarms

Rescue: 53 alarms

Water Rescue: 18 alarms

EMS: 75 alarms

Mutual Aid: 65 alarms

Total for 2011: 387 alarms

The dedicated firefighters of the Skaneateles Fire Department spent 2,852.7 hours away from home or work answering calls for assistance during 2011. The average personnel response per alarm included 12 firefighters and two chief officers.

During the course of 2011, 47 in-house training opportunities were offered for SFD members, in which 2,161.5 hours of training were conducted. This does not include the hundreds of additional hours spent attending state mandated courses or other various drill sessions Skaneateles firefighters attend annually.

At this time, the officers and members of the Skaneateles Fire Department would like to welcome our newest member, Amanda Sams, who will be responding from Station No. 1.

The SFD is continually looking for volunteers in an effort to maintain the highest level of service. We are looking for interested individuals 17 years of age and older to become a valued asset of the Skaneateles Fire Department.
