Column: Head to Lysander town offices before traveling abroad

— For those of you who will be traveling abroad, I want to remind you that the town clerk’s office is one stop shopping for passport book/card applications. We process applications with no appointment necessary and also take the photos that are required by the National Passport Center. Just a reminder that a passport card is valid only for entry to the U.S. at land border crossings and sea ports of entry when traveling from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. The card is not valid for international air travel.

The following is required for a basic adult application:

Form DS-11 for new applications (can be obtained from our office or at our website, townoflysander.org or at travel.state.gov.

Proof of U.S. citizenship (A certified birth certificate containing both parents names or previous passport.)

Proof of identity (A government issued photo I.D. with your signature for example; U.S. Passport book/card or a valid driver’s license.)

A check or money order for the fee payable to National Passport Center.

Check, money order, cash or credit card for $25 execution fee for each application payable to the Town of Lysander.

Two 2” x 2” color photographs. If photos are taken by our office, the cost is $10 payable to the Town of Lysander.

National passport center fees: adults (16 and older) $110 for book/ $30 for card

Minors (under age 16) $80 for book/$15 for card

Expedite processing $60

Overnight delivery return fee (passport book only) $12.72

Please call our office at 638.0224 or visit travel.state.gov for instructions regarding other circumstances such as passports for children, name changes or renewals.

Lisa Dell is the clerk for the town of Lysander.
