— “A couple of investors wanted to come tear it down and build a Holiday Inn,” Lee said. He said it might sound hokey, but it would not be an exaggeration to mention similarities to the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life.” In the movie, Lee said, George Bailey (played by Jimmy Stewart) realizes what his town (Bedford Falls) would have been like without him.

With a Christmas tree in the corner of the room and the Inn all decorated for the holidays, Lee said it would be difficult to imagine what Skaneateles would be today had Eberhardt not devoted himself to renovation and restoration, and if a Holiday Inn stood on the site today.

Rotarians in unison jumped to their feet and applauded as Eberhardt said his farewell and walked out into the warmly decorated lobby of the old inn.
