Manlius Fayetteville-Manlius High School students are gearing up for Dance Marathon — the school’s biggest and most ambitious fundraiser of the year. Their goal is to top the more than $127,000 raised last year for Camp Good Days and Special Times.
Hundreds of F-M High School students will gather from 12:34 to 1:18 p.m. and from 1:24 to 2:06 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, to kickoff fundraising for Dance Marathon, which will take place March 3. F-M students and Camp Good Days representatives and campers will talk about the impact the F-M fundraiser has on the children who attend Camp Good Days and Special Times. Dance Marathon masters of ceremonies will show a video they made and perform a dance routine they choreographed.
The public is invited to attend a 7 p.m. Jan. 5 evening assembly in the high school auditorium.
Camp Good Days is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults, and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges. It offers summer camping experiences and year-round events and activities.
More than 1,100 F-M High School students are expected to participate in the March 3 Dance Marathon, which includes 12 hours of dancing, bands, and contests sponsored by the F-M Student Council.
Student Council and the Dance Marathon masters of ceremonies have set a goal of raising $130,000 this year. Each student dancer donates a minimum of $50 to participate. Besides student donations, local businesses and companies also donate to the cause. In previous years, many students have raised more than $500, and some have raised more than $1,000.
The money is used to fund Camp Good Days & Special Times improvements and ensures that every child goes to camp for free. The camp is a place where children who have faced extreme hardships in their lives can enjoy a stress-free summer.
F-M students have raised more than $1 million total for the camp in the more than 20 years they have been holding the Dance Marathon fundraiser.
Donations can be sent to: F-M Student Council, 8201 East Seneca Turnpike, Manlius, NY 13104. For additional Dance Marathon information, call Carly Romano (F-M High School Student Council Secretary) at 315-692-1922 or email email@example.com.
