Baldwinsville The Baldwinsville Optimist Club celebrated their December and January students of the month at a dinner meeting at Dawn’s Canal Walk Café, Monday, Feb. 12. Canal Walk owner Dawn Custer graciously opened her restaurant in the evening for the event.
The December Student of the Month was Baker High School senior Maria Teresa Bianchetti.
The main reason a student is chosen as Student of the Month is their support of school and community, as well as extracurricular activities. While Bianchetti is a member of the National Honor Society and has maintained a 90-plus average all through her student life, she is also a member of the Baker Marching Band, Pep Band, Key Club (a club that volunteers for many community organizations), yearbook staff, newspaper staff, math league, Jenna’s Mentors, ski club and an altar server at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
“Her report,” guidance counselor David Mancini said, “consistently contains accolades such as: ‘A pleasure to have in class’ and ‘Student works hard to succeed.’”
Bianchetti is the proud daughter of Albert and Rosemary Bianchetti.
The Baldwinsville Optimists named Gabriella Goodsell the club’s January Student of the Month. Besides her outstanding academic achievements, Goodsell was described by her guidance counselor Kristin Foote as a senior who defines persistence.
“Gabriella stands out as one of the most dedicated students with whom I have worked during my 20-year tenure as a school counselor. She is an outstanding student,” Foote said.
Goodsell is a member of Animal Rights Club, Pep Band, Marching Band and Key Club. She is also an altar server and a member of St. Mary’s Church.
She is the proud daughter of Todd and Nicole Goodsell.
Coincidentally, Bianchetti and Goodsell have been best friends for their entire school life.
The head of the Student of the Month selection committee is Optimist Joyce Ramseyer and the Baker High School Guidance Department. Optimist Students of the month receive a certificate, a monetary gift and are eligible for a $1,000 scholarship in the spring.
The Baldwinsville Optimist Club is a civic community organization dedicated to supporting youth and community activities and is affiliated with Optimist International.
