B'ville routs F-M in relay; Carnovale second in girls 300

— Amid a string of high finishes at Wednesday’s Section III state qualifying meet at SRC Arena, the Baldwinsville boys indoor track and field team made a particular splash in the 4x800 relay.

Together, the quartet of Andy Fleming, Matt Pond, Josh Perez and Alec Peinkofer dominated the event, finishing in eight minutes, 5.18 seconds, exactly 13 seconds ahead of runner-up Fayetteville-Manlius. So they advance to the state meet, set for this Saturday at Cornell University’s Barton Hall.

On his own, Sargeant claimed third place in the 55-meter dash in 6.74 seconds as Nottingham’s Sharvin Greene (6.67 seconds) prevailed.

In the girls state qualifier, B’ville senior Gino Carnovale earned second place in the 300 sprint in 41.53 seconds, trailing only Cazenovia’s Ashley Winn (41.04 seconds) as Cierra Allen finished sixth in 43.70 seconds.
