As this went on, Marcellus had to display immense poise at Sherburne-Earlville. Ahead 41-36 going into the final period, the Mustangs watched the Marauders hang around and stay within range.
Still up by three, 55-52, Marcellus was ready to celebrate – until S-E’s Randy Briggs flashed open and, from 26 feet out, hit a 3-pointer as time ran out in regulation.
Somehow, the Mustangs absorbed this and played well in the four-minute OT period, holding the Marauders to five points and getting clutch free throws from Nick Sinay to stay in front.
Overall, Sinay amassed 14 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and seven steals. Kyle Hastings produced a team-high 21 points, while Garrett Thompson had 15 points.
