Did you know that Geico has a presence in Syracuse?

The local sales office opened its doors four years ago on Erie Boulevard East with just two licensed agents. Five full-time agents now occupy the bustling office that sees a steady stream of customers – easily 100 – each day. Incoming phone calls reach upwards to 300 daily.

“A sixth agent is coming on board in about a week,” said Tammy Braunscheidel, a two-year-plus employee with the rapidly growing insurance company. Braunscheidel said she has seen a huge increase in business since she joined the Geico team. “Our agency has almost doubled (in enrollment) in the last year.”

Geico, owned by Berkshire Hathaway, is known for its low rates, 24-hour customer service and of course, its little green reptilian mascot Gecko that surfaced the airwaves in 1999. “Fifteen minutes could save you 15 percent or more in car insurance,” has become a long-familiar tagline in both radio and television advertisements.

“We have great competitive rates [and] wonderful service,” Braunscheidel said when asked how customers benefit from having Geico as their vehicle or property insurance company. “We [also] have a wonderful claims department,” she added.

Claims are handled through the Geico’s 800 number, but the Syracuse office provides local claims adjusters through all the area Northside Collisions for convenience’s sake.

The local agents offer other services, too. They can consult with and adjust their clients’ policies, change coverage and accept monthly payments in the forms of cash, check or credit card. Clients also have the choice to work with a specific agent if they prefer.

“The customer satisfaction rating is 97 percent,” said Braunscheidel.

“… And growing!” chimed in fellow sales agent Lori Myers, referring to another Geico tagline.

Geico’s philosophy is to do right by the customer, Braunscheidel said. As the company continues to climb the ladder of success, that particular school of thought proves to be nothing but all-around sound.
