Book clubs continue to grow at Cazenovia library

— Young adults who love books and movies are invited to the next meeting of the “Book to Film Club” at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10 in the Community Room of the Cazenovia Public Library.

The theme of “Fantasy in Fiction and Film” continues with “The Neverending Story” by Michael Ende. Those interested can pick up a copy of the book at the library, and join Bastian as he embarks on a wild adventure to the magical world of Fantastica, a doomed land filled with dragons, giants and monsters.

“The Open Book Club” for adults, continues at 2 and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15. The 2 p.m. group will read “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” by J.K. Rowling, a book whose coming-of-age theme correlates with “To Kill a Mockingbird.” In the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry begins to discover some clues about his illustrious birthright. From the surprising way he is greeted by a lovable giant, to the unique curriculum and colorful faculty at his unusual school, Harry finds himself drawn deep inside a mystical world he never knew existed and closer to his own noble destiny.

The 7 p.m. group will read “A Reliable Wife” by Robert Goolrick, a tale of love and madness, of longing and murder. In this story, readers will meet Ralph Truitt, who placed an advertisement for a “reliable wife” in a Chicago paper, and Catherine Land, who responded but her motive was to marry Ralph, kill him and become a wealthy widow. Neither could have anticipated the results.

“The Neverending Story,” “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and “A Reliable Wife” are all currently available at the library.

These book clubs are free and open to the public. For more information, call 655-9322 or visit cazenoviapubliclibrary.org.
