— Baldwinsville Christian Academy Sixth graders Emmie Cooper and Windsor Ardner show their map for Read Across America, a reading project that involves eight categories of books that each student must read. The categories of books are non-fiction, fiction, Bible, sports, animals, biography, history and mystery. To start the project, the students had to plan a route from the city they live in to a city on the west coast. Then they had to count out how many miles long their routes were. Each page of a book that a student reads counts as one mile of their route. Once a book is read, the students highlight how many pages (miles) they read. The students also have to write a book report or do a book project on each one of the books they read. The sixth graders then write three state reports, one city report and one natural wonder report focused on destinations along their routes.
