When it comes to connecting with loved ones, you make the call

Google's Video Hangouts

When it comes to online presence, Google is right up there. From its search site to its email service, millions of people use Google services daily. When Google began experimenting with video calling, everyone wanted to give it a try. What is nice about it is you can start the call right from your Google or Gmail account. You could make a call to anyone with a Google account, or if they don't have one, they could quickly set one up. After downloading a small web browser extension, you can create a “hangout” where you can invite multiple friends or family to join in on the video call.

So are you ready to give it a try? With so much going on this holiday season it might be nice to get in some face to face time with those that you care about, even if they are miles away. If you want to learn more about these kinds of video calling or any other new type of technology, stop by the Dewitt Community Library, or check out our new One on One Tech help sessions on Wednesday from 3 to 4 p.m. Through our website, click on the tab for program registration and choose one of the One on One Tech help sessions to sign up. Let us know what you need assistance with and we'll be glad to help.

Paul Morrell is assistant director for computing and technology services at DeWitt Community Library and Scott Mosher is paralibrarian for technology.
