DeWitt Calling all high school rockers! The Jewish Community Center’s 11th annual Battle of the Bands will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, with this year’s event taking place at a new location.
The SPOT Teen Center in Shoppingtown Mall in DeWitt will host this year’s event where high school bands representing local schools will come together for one rockin’ good competition. Support your school and your local music scene. The SPOT is now accepting applications for bands that are interested in performing at the Battle of the Bands.
This year’s event will be formatted much like previous years events. There will once again be up to ten bands in the competition with each band having a half hour to set up and play. The judges will then rate them on musical talent, stage presence, overall performance and audience response and decide which band takes home all the fabulous prizes.
The judges for this year’s event are Mark Bialczak, music and Eentertainment writer for the Post-Standard; Jeremy Johnston, owner of SubCat Music Studios; and Ryan Gorham, owner of Gorham Brothers Music. The event will be supported by SubCat Music Studios which has graciously offered this year’s winning band a six-hour demo package at their recording studio located in downtown Syracuse. In addition, the JCC will provide a $200 cash prize and the top three bands will perform at The SPOT’s Music Showcase in the spring.
You can download the application packet online or pick it up at the JCC front desk or The SPOT. Registration costs $40 per band, and payment and forms must be received by Jan. 2. Three judges will decide which band takes home the grand prize of $200 cash and more.
Admission is $8 per person and for every student that attends; $1 of the admission price is donated back to their school’s music department. For more information call Katie Sutliff at 445-2360 ext. 133 or email email@example.com.
