Clay North Area Meals on Wheels has partnered with Romano Subaru this holiday season to increase awareness of hunger among seniors. During December, employees of Romano Subaru will volunteer to help deliver meals to area seniors. This local effort is part of the Meals on Wheels Association of America’s (MOWAA) participation in the Subaru of America, Inc. national Share the Love event. In addition, the event will raise funds to support MOWAA.
As one of the five Subaru Share the Love event charitable partners, MOWAA is awarding $200,000 in grants to local Meals on Wheels programs that partner with local Subaru dealerships in the fight to end senior hunger. North Area Meals on Wheels is eligible to win a MOWAA-Subaru Share the Love grant of up to $35,000 to help provide nutritious meals to homebound seniors in Central New York.
“We are so grateful to Romano Subaru for partnering with us on this project to raise funds for Meals on Wheels,” said Donna Barrett, director of North Area Meals on Wheels. “Their support helps us with our mission to provide meals to seniors who are not able to shop or prepare nutritional meals for themselves.”
The Subaru Share the Love event runs through Jan. 2, 2013. Subaru will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased during the event to the purchaser’s choice of one of five participating charities, including MOWAA. Over the past four years of the event, proceeds have provided funds to MOWAA to support its vision of ending senior hunger by 2020.
“We are honored to be part of Share the Love for a fifth straight year,” said Larry J. Tomayko, interim CEO of MOWAA. “Working together, MOWAA and Subaru are helping to provide more than just a meal; we’re bringing warmth and compassion to so many hungry and homebound seniors who would otherwise go without.”
