— “The Key serves the community in multiple ways; by providing a place where quality goods can be exchanged, supporting various community organizations with proceeds from sales, and creating a place where many volunteers and community members can meet and work together for a good cause,” Rev. Schmitz said.

Is it difficult to move from place to place so often? Rev. Schmitz acknowledged it is, “but walking alongside a church from the time when it has lost its clergy leadership, to the time when it embraces a new pastor, is really fulfilling,” she said.

Does she ever wish she could stay at a church after the interim is over? “Sure, because it’s hard to think about leaving people you have come to love, but it’s my job and commitment to move on so that the new pastor can bond with the congregation,” Rev. Schmitz said. “That’s part of being the bridge person as a professional interim.”
