continued Interact is Rotary’s service club for young people, and so it made sense for Interact to connect to the Staten Island club’s effort, said Valente. In addition, the Skaneateles Rotary Club has joined other clubs in Central New York (District 7150) to raise $1,000 toward the effort.
The Rotary Club of Staten Island was on the ground helping victims of Hurricane Sandy within two days of the hurricane. Initially they purchased milk, underwear, water, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, socks, sweatpants and flannel shirts along with food items which were delivered to distribution centers and to shelters where the needs are greatest. Staten Island Rotarians have also begun to help in the cleanup.
At this time they recommend that monetary donations be made instead of food and clothing. Checks should be made out to the Staten Island Rotary Foundation. The foundation is able to provide a tax receipt. Donations will help get the appropriate goods and services to those affected as efficiently as possible.
