Baldwinsville At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, the Baldwinsville Public Library will offer a program on planning for college. “Get a Degree . . . Not Debt” is a free workshop offered to parents of middle and high school students or those already in college or graduate school.
Presenter John Decker, of College Assistance Plus, will discuss ways to reduce tuition regardless of income and explain applications, the FAFSA form and NCAA sports strategies. He will stress that having a college plan and identifying a major and career early is a key to success and that there are new ways to negotiate lower tuition at private colleges. Six-figure student debt is becoming common and 53 percent of 2010 college grads are either unemployed or underemployed.
Decker spent 24 years in finance and business development at Lockheed Martin and Philips and was the northeast director of the non-profit Youth Transition Network, bridging students to college, before joining College Assistance Plus.
The library is located at 33 East Genesee St. in Baldwinsville. Registration is not required. Call the library at 635-5631 with any questions.
