Accident leaves teen in critical condition

— Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a car pedestrian accident that sent a 19-year-old Liverpool man to University Hospital with life threatening injuries.

At 9:36 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a car pedestrian accident on Oswego Road at the intersection of Redwing Drive in the Town of Clay. Deputies investigating the accident report that the pedestrian, Michael Cardwell Jr., 19, of Redwing Drive, was attempting to cross Oswego Road in a west bound direction, against the green traffic light, when he walked into the path of a north bound Ford Focus vehicle being operated by an Ashley Weare, 18, of Greenleaf Drive, Lysander.

Rescue personnel from the Moyers Corners Fire Department and NOVA Ambulance responded to the scene where Cardwell was discovered lying in the roadway unconscious. Cardwell was rushed to Upstate University Hospital with a head injury and remains in critical condition. Weare was not injured in the accident, but was evaluated at the scene by medical personnel.

Members of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team were called to the scene and are currently conducting the investigation.
