AAUW announces scholarship for female college students

— The Skaneateles Branch of the American Association of University Women announces the availability of a Queen’s Legacy Award, a $500 scholarship to be awarded by Dec. 31, 2012. The scholarship will be awarded to a female student who is a:

—2012 graduate of either Skaneateles or Auburn High School; or

—Currently matriculated student at Onondaga or Cayuga Community College; or

—2012 graduate of either Onondaga or Cayuga Community College who has been accepted as a matriculated student in any four-year accredited college.

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic performance, demonstration of leadership in the student’s school or community and financial need.

The American Association of University Women promotes equality for all women and girls, lifelong education and positive social change. The Queens, N.Y., Branch of the AAUW was focused on scholarship and education. When the branch disbanded after 77 years it was determined it would be most fitting that the remaining branch funds be used to support the focus of the branch.

The Skaneateles Branch of the AAUW received the privilege of awarding one of the available scholarships through a lottery drawing won by Kathy Gorr, 2011–12 president of the Skaneateles Branch.

Students wishing to apply for the scholarship should request an application form from Catherine Powell, co-president of the Skaneateles Branch of AAUW at cpowell38@verizon.net by Sept. 19.
