North Syracuse waste pickup schedule to change

— This summer we will be changing the pickup schedule for bulk waste. In the past, we did it once a year in the fall. This created a two-week period that turned the village into an eyesore. Additionally, we have noticed that approximately half of the bulk waste picked up could have been picked up during the weekly waste pickup. We pay approximately $380,000 a year in a contract for weekly pickup. It is not financially efficient for us to pick up waste during bulk waste that could have been handled during our weekly pickup. We will now pick up bulk waste twice a month, April through September, and during the winter months, weather permitting.

We will also be adding a new category of waste to be picked up at your house. Electronic waste, or e-waste, will also be picked up twice a month.

Go to northsyracuseny.org under the Department of Public Works for more detailed information. The following is some information regarding the pickup of weekly waste, bulk waste, e-waste, brush waste and fall leaf pickup.

Weekly waste and recyclables

Syracuse Haulers handles all weekly garbage, refuse, rubbish and recyclable pickup and removal for all residential and commercial properties within the village. Any concerns relating to weekly waste pick-up/removal should be made directly to Syracuse Haulers by calling 426-6771. Some examples of refuse are household accessories, mattresses, box springs, outdoor furniture, rugs, curtains, household appliances such as toasters, mixers, indoor or outdoor gas, electric or charcoal barbeque grills (but not propane tanks), physical fitness equipment or similar items will be picked up on your designated day of the week.

Blue bins for recyclables can be obtained by calling the DPW at 458-0790 or call the village clerk/treasurer at 458-0900. We will need your name, address and the number of blue bins requested. They are usually delivered on Fridays. Unsure what goes into the blue bins? Visit ocrra.org where all your recycling questions will be answered.
