Lysander accident leaves 7 hospitalized

— Deputies are investigating an SUV rollover crash that has left seven hospitalized.

At 6:11 p.m. last night, Tuesday, April 24, Sheriff’s deputies responded to Route 690 north, just north of Route 370, to investigate a SUV rollover crash. A 2004 Jeep Liberty, operated by Anthony J. Baker (19), of 32 Maplehurst Drive in Phoenix , was traveling south on Route 690 north when he lost control of the SUV while making a lane change. Baker’s SUV drifted into the median and rolled several times before coming to a rest.

Deputies assigned to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Prisoner Transport Unit witnessed the crash as they traveled north on Route 690 and immediately stopped to assist.

Fire and EMS personnel from the Plainville Fire Department responded to the scene and several ambulances were called to transport seven patients to Upstate University Hospital for treatment. Kirsten LaPlante (18), of Phoenix, who was seated behind the driver and not wearing a seat belt, sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being ejected from the SUV and thrown into the northbound lane.

The following also sustained minor injuries and transported to Upstate University Hospital for evaluation:

Ashley Lyons (20), of Pennellville – rear seat passenger side, wearing seat belt

Gregory Millis (23), of Phoenix– middle seat passenger, no seat belt

Travis Dickinson (19), of Phoenix – cargo area, no seat belt

Paul Nowakoski (18), of Pennellville – cargo area, no seat belt

Deputies investigating the crash report that no other vehicles were involved and no tickets have been issued at this time. The northbound lanes, just north of Route 370, were closed while crews cleared the scene and the highway was reopened just after 7 p.m.
