Baldwinsville To the editor:
A few weeks ago, I wrote a letter about the Lysander Town Board hiring a town engineer and attempting to also make this person deputy highway superintendent. From what I understand, when our town board checked the laws, the deputy must reside within the town, and our engineer does not currently live in Lysander.
At the town board meeting on April 9, the board went into executive session for a few issues. When they came out around an hour and a half later, they made three announcements. One was for hiring a dog control officer, and the other two were job openings in the highway department, for highway superintendent and deputy superintendent. Both highway jobs were stated to be part-time, 20hours per week. The jobs were then posted on the town website a few days later. I did not understand if this was a temporary move to replace the soon retiring highway superintendent, and it was not explained. After checking the website on April 20, there is no longer a deputy position posted, and the superintendent position is full time again.
In the last two meetings, I have seen decisions regarding appointments made that had to be changed later. I am urging residents and taxpayers to come to the next town board meeting, at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26.
