J-D track teams sweep ESM

Vasiliou, Fairbanks lead girls Rams; Sterriker, Perrone top boys sides

— In their head-to-head encounter, the Jamesville-DeWitt track and field teams rolled to wins over host East Syracuse-Minoa Monday afternoon, prevailing 104-37 on the girls side and 98-39 on the boys side.

This was all part of a three-way meet also involving Fowler. ESM split that part of it, beating the Falcons 108-32 in the girls contest but dropping a close 71-69 decision in the boys contest.

Rachel Fairbanks and Sierra Vasiliou both won twice for J-D’s girls. Fairbanks ran 800 meters in 2:57.8 and also took the 1,500-meter run in 5:15.4, also teaming with Emilee Carpenter, Hannah Stefl and Laura Wengert to win the 4x800 relay in 10:52.4.

Vasiliou unleashed a top long jump of 16 feet 2 ½ inches, beating ESM’s Amanda Wall (15’ ¼”), who retaliated by claiming the triple jump with 33’ 6 ½” to beat J-D’s Patrece Martin (31’ 2 ½”). Vasiliou, with a shot put toss of 29’10”, edged teammate Tangela Hightower by two inches.

Ally Fox tied Fowler’s Nytasia Survia in the 100-meter dash, each finishing in 13.1 seconds, going on to help Liz Pieri, Katy Pieri and Danielle Doss win the 4x400 relay. Doss and Liz Pieri tied ESM’s Megan Terry as they all cleared 7’6” in the pole vault.

Elsewhere, Noelle Novakowski was first in the 100 hurdles in 18.5 seconds, just ahead of Taylor Cook (18.7), while Allison Semmel held off Maggie Fuller, 1:17.1 to 1:17.5, in the 400 hurdles. Fuller turned around and cleared 4’8” to win the high jump again.

ESM had a couple of winners beside Wall. Gabby Pallotta needed 11:30 to take the 3,000-meter run, while Jessica Drumm earned a victory in the discus by throwing it 76’1”, with J-D’s Brooke DeRoberts (72’8”) in second.

On the boys side, J-D’s Ryan Peters swept the throwing events. He tossed the shot put 42’ 1 ¾”, and had a top discus throw of 122’1”, leaving teammates Charlie Seftic (108’9”) and Koy Adams (101’9”) behind in the latter event despite their own triple-digit efforts.
