Cazenovia-based artist Mary Padgett will soon present “Plein Air Pastels” at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn.
The class, which will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 19 and 20, is a chance for adults to learn pastel techniques while working at various outdoor venues in Auburn.
Padgett paints pastels that are distinctive for her use of color. She is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and has been featured in American Artist magazine. Her paintings are in numerous private and public collections, including Towers Perrin, Takasago International, and the Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
She has participated in numerous local and national group and one-person exhibits, with an upcoming solo show opening in May 2012 at The Smithy Pioneer Gallery in Cooperstown. Mary was educated at Boston University and Syracuse University. She teaches pastel and color theory courses locally as well as plein air painting programs both locally and abroad.

The Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center is located at 205 Genesee St. in Auburn. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday though Saturday, and 1 to 5 pm Sunday. The gallery is closed on Mondays, major holidays and between exhibitions. Admission varies; members and children 12 and under are free.
