LETTERS: Light Up Fenner achieves goal, thanks local organizations, supporters

To the editor:

“You know we just don’t recognize the most significant moments of our lives while they are happening.” - Dr. Archibald “Moonlight” Graham

We would like to extend our most sincere appreciation to the individuals, families and businesses that have helped to achieve our goal for permanent lights at the Sean Googin Sports Complex.

Thank you to the community at large for your support to make night games another positive community venue.

Special thanks goes to Cazenovia Youth Soccer, and its past and present board members, which spearheaded this capital project. Also, a huge “thank you” is due to the Lions Club and especially the Cazenovia Lions Club Foundation Inc., for facilitating this project. Other community organizations, which have aided in the project, are Cazenovia Youth Lacrosse, Cazenovia Pop Warner Football and the Cazenovia Athletic Association.

In the movie “Field of Dreams,” Kevin Costner’s character envisioned, “Build it and they will come.”

Two years ago we had a dream of providing permanent lighting to the players, students and families of Cazenovia. Interestingly, and contrary to the movie story line - they came before they were built.

Not only did they come with cash donations from $5 to $5,000, they came with donations of labor, cement, conduit, etc. Everyone came with a positive attitude and with his or her own personal time.

Although this project is the result of literally hundreds of individual efforts, we would like to thank the following individuals for their tenacity to get a project on line: Tim Mahoney, Phil Cunningham, Clay Coleman, Steve Ackermann and David Hazer.

Susan Baldwin, Tim Mahoney, Kara Connellan, Eric Burrell, David White and Brian Willard
