Upcoming activities at Beaver Lake Nature Center

— Live raptor demonstration

At 3 p.m. April 22, Beaver Lake Nature Center celebrates Earth Day with a special opportunity for a close-up look at several live birds of prey from Wild Wings rehabilitation and education organization. The birds' handlers will introduce the different types of raptors and how they are adapted to hunt and fly so skillfully. Tickets are $5 per person and should be purchased in advance.

Wyllie Fox Farms seeding sales

Wyllie Fox Farms is coming to Beaver Lake Nature Center for three seedling sales this spring. Located in Cato, Wyllie Fox Farms uses sustainable, organic farming practices to yield high-quality, naturally-grown produce. The seedling sales will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22, and Saturday, May 5, (seeds include peas, cauliflower, broccoli, Asian greens, and more) and Saturday, May 19, (seeds include tomatoes, squash, melons, peppers, eggplant, flowers and more).

Living with wildlife

At 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 26, Beaver Lake Nature Center will offer answers to questions about birds and windows, coyotes and cats, and other common wildlife issues. The presentation is part of the nature center's Field Guide Series. $5; registration required.

Excursion to Pratt's Falls

Beaver Lake Nature Center is organizing a group trip to Pratt's Falls from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 27. This Onondaga County Park offers not only views of the 137-foot waterfall, but also more than five miles of trails around the area. Participants will have the opportunity to discover trails beyond the short scenic overlook trail, and new vantage points of the falls and other scenic areas. Individuals should meet at the nature center with a lunch and good hiking shoes. Transportation provided. $25; registration required.

African Violet Show

The 58th annual African Violet Show will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 28, and from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Beaver Lake Nature Center. Many beautiful varieties from local growers will be on display. Visitors will be able to purchase plants from Lyons Greenhouse and club members from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
