Baldwinsville — Honey Bees in the garden

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, Beaver Lake Nature Center welcomes an expert on honey bees to share how bee boxes can bring new life to a garden. This program is well-suited for anyone thinking of acquiring bee boxes, as well as for those interested in learning more about the ecology of these amazing social insects. $8; registration required.

Trail Tales

Preschool age children, accompanied by an adult, are invited to gather at Beaver Lake Nature Center for the popular Trail Tales program at 1 p.m. Thursdays, April 5 and 19. A naturalist reads two stories to the children and then leads the group on a hike themed to match the stories. This program is free with admission.

Discover Owls: Field Guide Lecture Series

At 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, Beaver Lake Nature Center offers an in-depth look into the world of owls. A naturalist will give tips for identifying different types of owls that live around Beaver Lake and discuss the special adaptations of these nocturnal predators. $5; registration required.

Architect-designed birdhouses

Randall Korman, the Associate Dean of Architecture at Syracuse University, is sharing the secrets of his designer birdhouses at Beaver Lake Nature Center at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 5. A native New Yorker, this Harvard graduate has recently added to his impressive architecture portfolio a collection of unique birdhouses. Korman will reveal his design process and exhibit several examples of his work. $7; registration required.

Trail guide volunteers needed

Beaver Lake Nature Center seeks individuals interested in sharing their love and knowledge of nature with the hundreds of children that come to Beaver Lake Nature Center each year for field trips. After attending a training course held at the nature center, volunteers (18 years or older) will guide elementary level students along the trails of Beaver Lake. The next upcoming trail guide training workshop is on April 5 and 6. Interested individuals should call the nature center to sign up.
