ADA charged with DWI in Salina crash that shut down I-81

— Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that an assistant district attorney involved in a one-car crash has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

This afternoon 1:34 pm, sheriff’s deputies and responded to Exit 25a of Route 81 north to investigate a one-car crash involving a 2009 Jeep Wrangler, operated by Daniel Barry, 35, of 317 Fay Road, Solvay. Deputies report Barry was traveling north on Route 81 and lost control of his vehicle on the off ramp that connects to the New York State Thruway. Barry’s SUV struck the center guardrail which caused heavy damage to his vehicle.

Barry sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by Rural Metro Ambulance to Upstate University Hospital at Community General for treatment.

Deputies investigating the incident charged Barry, who was under the influence of prescription medication at the time of the crash, with driving while intoxicated - drugs, driving while intoxicated - common law, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and imprudent speed. Barry was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Salina Town Court on April 19.

Daniel Barry, as assistant district attorney for Onondaga County, was not on duty at the time of the crash and has been place on administrative leave by the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office.
