With the OHSL Liberty division season so short, the Cazenovia girls tennis team could not afford anything other than a good opening stretch. And Cazenovia got that positive start on Aug. 31, defeating Skaneateles 6-1 in a battle of Laker teams that included a doubles sweep. Claire Chanatry and Rebecca Marsch preserved that 4-0 doubles mark, rallying from behind to beat Alaina Davis and Bailey Parson 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. In a longer battle, Ava Gurney and Natalie Roszel outlasted Makenzie Keller and Maddy Pinkney 7-6, 6-7, 11-9. It proved easier in the other two doubles contests, as Edie Connor and Sally Langan got past Kathryn Magee and Grace Magee 7-5, 6-2, with Grace Gara and Taylor Mimms putting together a 6-4, 6-1 sweep of Elizabeth Belinski and Angela Krause. Over in singles play, Elizabeth Palmer held off Makenzie Herbst in a 7-6, 6-2 decision, with Kelly Furlong routing Olivia Gage 6-0, 6-1. Sienna Lints had a 6-2, 6-2 defeat to Katelyn Ellison. The Lakers moved from there to a 7-0 shutout of Pulaski on Thursday afternoon. One singles match was forfeited, but Palmer blanked Samantha Keeney 6-0, 6-0 as Lints gained a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Emily Fellers. In four doubles matches, the teams of Connor-Langan, Gara-Mimms, Chanatry-Marsch and Gurney-Roszel never lost more than three games in any set they played.
