Both of Baldwinsville’s cross country teams got their first taste of race action Saturday amid the obstacles, natural and man-made, provided by the Jordan-Elbridge Invitational. Though the J-E course was shortened to 2.5 miles from the usual 3.1-mile distance, it also featured eight steep hills and seven hurdles made up of hay bales, further testing the runners’ capabilities. Andy Fleming stepped up and won the boys race, covering the course in 14 minutes, 16 seconds, beating Hannibal’s Ryan Perry (14:20) by four seconds. Jack Martin made his way to third place, in 14:23, while Casey McAllister was eighth in 14:58. Harrison Warner finished 15th in 15:15, one second ahead of Antonio Martinez (15:16) as Steve Petrelli was 17th in 15:34. Arden Kellner (15:49) and Chris Twichell (15:50) were 24th and 25th, respectively. B’ville’s runners dominated the JV race, taking each of the top 11 spots. Nate Wicks won in 15:41, with Mike Boyce (15:43) and Brennan LaQue (15:49) close behind. As for the girls side, the Bees occupied eight of the top 11 varsity positions, even though J-E’s Abby Gugel won in 16:29 and Homer’s Jade Auchmoody (16:32) was second. Hannah Olds, who gained third place in 17:44, led the Bees’ big assault, with Kim Cushman fourth in 17:51 and Marissa Lathrop fifth in 17:53. Emily Thompson followed in sixth place (18:04), as Julia Johnson (18:08) and Mia Bolton (18:11) were seventh and eighth, respectively. Rachael Miller gained 10th place in 18:21 and Mackenzie Ross was 11th with a clocking of 18:32. Also, B’ville swept all 10 of the top spots in the JV girls race, led by Kelley Hull, whose winning time of 18:43 beat the field by more than a minute. Meghan Hull, Rachael Dominic, Kirby Socker and Madison Gonzalez rounded out the top five.
